Launch of Rowman & Littlefield International
The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group today announces that it is investing in the launch of a new academic publishing business, which will be located in London, UK, and which will have a mission to publish for a global academic audience in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The new business, Rowman & Littlefield International, will be run by Oliver Gadsby as Chief Executive; he will recruit a strong creative team capable of addressing the information needs of students and academics in Europe and across the world.
Welcoming the launch, Jed Lyons, CEO of the Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group, said: “ We are very pleased to be backing an ambitious plan to address the ever-increasing need for high-quality research and instructional material, at a time when worldwide participation in higher education is at a greater level than ever before. This new initiative will significantly boost the profile of Rowman & Littlefield with students, faculty and libraries outside North America, the region which has been our core market since our foundation over 35 years ago.”
Oliver Gadsby, who was the CEO of Continuum until 2011, when he led the sale of the business to Bloomsbury Publishing plc, said: “I am delighted to be launching a new publishing business at a time when technology is opening up new modes of collaboration and communication in the world of higher education. We intend to establish close connections with academic communities, to be a dynamic and responsive partner in disseminating research and learning – and to make strong use of technology through every aspect of that process. Having the backing of the Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group gives us access to a superb group of colleagues, technologies and relationships, and we are confident that this will help give us the new company a fast and positive start.”
Jed Lyons and Oliver Gadsby will be members of the board of Rowman & Littlefield International, where they will be joined by Ken Rhodes, the new General Manager of NBN International, the UK-based distribution company which is a subsidiary of the Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group.
