Rowman & Littlefield’s Publicity Department is seeking a motivated, organized, and enthusiastic college student to assist with the department’s promotional efforts. Rowman & Littlefield, headquartered in Lanham, Maryland, is one of the largest and fastest-growing independent publishers and distributors in North America. The company publishes in virtually all fields in the humanities and social sciences. Because Rowman & Littlefield is committed to the growth of tomorrow’s publishing leaders, students selected as interns are expected to gain practical and valuable experience not only in their primary area of study, but with regard to the publishing industry as a whole.

The Publicity Intern will work with the head and assistant publicist to help bring a finished book to the attention of libraries and mainstream media. The candidate should have an interest in the publishing industry with a desire to communicate with a variety of media outlets and departments within the company.

The Publicity Intern will primarily be involved in assisting with the following:

· Entering book reviews into R&L’s database
· Preparing advance reading copies to be sent to key library journals
· Updating and contacting media outlets
· Writing event descriptions on rowman.com
· Creating press releases

Academic credit is available for this unpaid position. Student in all majors will be considered, but Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, and English students will be given preference. This internship offers a flexible schedule, but candidates must know their schedule (academic and otherwise) for the requisite semester when applying.
