PUBLICITY MANAGER (L-12-18)

Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing and Sales, the Publicity Manager will oversee the publicity department and execute all aspects of publicity campaigns for the publisher’s General Interest and titles. The publicity manager will be responsible for creating seasonal publicity campaigns, developing and maintaining media relationships, and monitoring the publicity budget.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement publicity strategy for select titles, including electronic pitches, review copy mailings, and related follow-up
  • Undertake seasonal publicity trips to key book review media and represent publisher at annual trade association meetings
  • Create and implement special promotions of key titles
  • Coordinate efforts of authors, agents, freelance publicists, and the R&L staff
  • Liaise with bookstores and their sales department for author signings, as well as secure coverage in local media for author events
  • Help plan author receptions, book launches, and trade show appearances as appropriate
  • Use social media to amplify media hits and spread the word about author events
  • Communicate media hits to internal staff
  • Attend and present at weekly sales, marketing, and publicity meetings
  • Generate accurate and comprehensive media lists using Cision
  • Write and update press releases and pitches
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of experience in public relations, book publishing experiencing preferred
  • Established media contacts highly preferable
  • Knowledge of book promotion best practices and commitment to innovative new ways to promote books and authors via social media
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media outlets/technology
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects for stakeholders
