Channel Manager, Retail & Professional (L-06-19) | Rowman & Littlefield
Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group is looking for a Retail & Professional Channel Manager in the Academic Marketing Department. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Executive Channel Manager to develop and implement the overall marketing strategy and collaborate with other departments to drive customer engagement and revenue through the retail and professional channels. The channel manager will also act as the advocate for customer stakeholders and ensure products are developed and positioned to add value.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Executive Channel Manager, Retail & Professional (who is based offsite) and work at the company’s headquarters in Lanham, MD.


Develop and implement the overall marketing content for the Retail Channel based on sales rep feedback, consumer insights and analytics.
  • Coordinate marketing content for National Book Network catalogs, Edelweiss, as well as sales support materials.
  • Establish compelling trade product positioning.
  • Create and implement marketing plans for all trade titles--including advertising, social media, publicity, and direct mail.
  • Coordinate with strategic engagement team on digital marketing and social media campaigns, and traditional book publicity in trade media.
  • Attend conference and other market engagement events.
  • Develop the social media strategy for Trade titles.
  • You will work closely with the Strategic Engagement team to create dynamic trade book publicity and marketing content and digital/social media strategies.
  • Manage the execution of the strategy to ensure coordinated program maximize the impact into the retail/general consumer market.
  • Manage the web and retail search programs to drive successful campaigns.
Assist executive channel manager on marketing to key professional audiences, especially those that overlap trade book program (i.e. psychology and music).
  • Create compelling marketing communications materials that drive behavior. Ensure materials are coordinated and executed in a timely fashion.
Customer advocacy
  • Represent the customer’s perspective with regard to product development and position.
Coordinate and attend industry events, including author signings and book launches.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years in marketing in publishing industry or related field
  • Solid understanding of how marketing impacts business/revenue
  • Exemplary communication skills and a high level of detail-orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions
  • Creative and shows strong initiative
  • Travel – 10%
