Labor market data is important for researchers in multiple fields to be able to easily access. This new edition of a classic annual reference volume, once again edited by Ryan, compiles more than 200 tables covering all aspects of U.S. labor market data, from unemployment to pricing to productivity. Extensive background notes, definitions, and at least one figure begin most chapters. This version once again includes a chapter on COVID’s continuing impact on the labor market. While there is not much explained in the way of methodology, the volume does make plenty of references to more comprehensive reports that readers can access if needed. With straightforward, easy-to-read tables and figures to answer nearly every labor-related reference question, this is, without a doubt, the type of reference book that every library should have on its shelves. It also demonstrates that so much can happen in a year, so it’s worth updating annually. The most authoritative and up-to-date source on United States labor market data available in print. The definitive source for historical U.S.-labor-market data is compiled, as always, by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau. Notable additions to the twenty-sixth edition include updated tables showing the impact of COVID-19 on the workforce into 2022, including data on telework and consumer expenditures. Users will also find a new section related to seasonal employment as well as updated employment projections through 2031. As in previous editions, information is displayed in a user-friendly format with supporting text and bulleted lists of highlights for each general heading. Although the raw statistical data is available directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, there is value added by the print-based and e-book versions in their convenience and ease of use. The supporting text and general index also differentiate the book from the BLS website, making this a solid choice for reference collections.
