Charles J. Schwahn has been a serious student of leadership theory and practice for all of his professional career. In addition to his successful tenure as a school superintendent, he has consulted with organizations throughout North America for more than thirty years on the topics of leadership, change, future-focusing, and strategic design. William G. Spady has been a major catalyst and leader of educational change efforts in North America and abroad for over forty years. His vision of and commitment to elevating and transforming our entrenched Industrial Age paradigm of education is boldly stated in his seven books and countless published papers.

Total Leaders 2.0 and Learning Communities 2.0 present practical solutions that will help both new and experienced educational leaders to transform their school systems.
— Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA, The School Superintendents Association; former school superintendent
The authors have written the best book on educational leadership that I have read. This will be required reading for all of our doctoral students. What impresses me most is the "big picture" approach that they present in the book. It puts educational leadership in context for what is happening in the world.
— Ralph Jasparra, professor, School of Education, Johnson & Wales University; president, Education Designs; senior consultant, Teachers21
A must-read for both aspiring and successful, experienced school leaders.
— Bill Adams, New Jersey superintendent emeritus; educational and executive search consultant
AASA veterans will, no doubt, remember Chuck Schwahn and Bill Spady from the outcome-based education wars of the mid-1990's. Total Leaders 2.0: Leading in the Age of Empowerment is a 10-years-after-NCLB update of their Total Leaders book of 1998….The details are in the work of daily leadership, and the authors lay out the model's five domains and 15 performance roles. While there is not a lot here that an experienced superintendent has not heard before, bringing these ideas together into one framework is helpful, both in implementing key actions in a district and in conceptualizing them in leadership development classes.
— School Administrator
