About the Author
Recommended: The hundreds of entries in this encyclopedia cover all things Woody Allen—every short story, all movies, Broadway shows, television work, comedy, and acting career. The book includes entries for actors, directors, designers, producers, recurring composers and lyricists, and cinematographers, along with some thematic entries (e.g., "Working Methods"). Entries for films include a list of staff involved in the production, a cast list, a detailed plot summary, a surprisingly incisive critical analysis, a black-and-white photo, a list of awards, a list of all the music used, and the ratings accorded by agencies, publications, or critics. There is no lengthy entry for Allen himself, but the front matter includes a brief biography (two pages). The volume concludes with five appendixes: a chronological list of Allen's works; entries by category (films, theater, television, fiction, performers, and miscellaneous topics, e.g., psychoanalysis and jazz and blues); a chronology of awards; music-related entries (soundtracks, compilation recordings, recurring composers and lyricists); and actors.
