Phoebe E. Hughes is a lecturer in musicology in the Binghamton University Music Department, where she teaches classes on Western Classical music, U.S. popular music, Taylor Swift, and music research methods. Her studies focus on the intersections of class, gender, race, and sexuality in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American popular music. She has a PhD in musicology from Ohio State University, and an interdisciplinary specialization certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies.
