Is it enough to lecture students about how to deal with a bully? Not if you’re childhood education expert Dr. Catherine DePino. She turns words into actions with an illustrious new book that gives kids real-life practice in what to do when being harassed. Cool Things to Do If a Bully’s Bugging You: 50 Classroom Activities to Help Elementary Students empowers teachers, kids and parents with an easy-to-follow, fundamental means of dealing with bullying. Along the way, kids will create a superhero Bully Buster, write a bull-busting manual, make a silly bully picture booklet, find the right words to tell about bullying and many, many other techniques kids, teachers and parents can use.

As a school nurse and a children's author, I have high praise for Dr. Catherine DePino's book, Cool Things to Do If a Bully Is Bullying You. This book is about empowerment. It is about teaching children their self worth and teaching them strategies, through interactive classroom projects, to stand up for themselves and their peers in the face of bullying. Additionally, other projects support them in finding the words to seek help from peers, educators and parents. There are also home activities so parents can learn what the children are doing and how to assist them.
This book brings bullying out of the shadows. I see it as a valuable resource for any curriculum on the problem of bullying. Dr. DePino was able to write this excellent book because of her years of direct experience with children, parents and fellow educators.
