Weingartner's First Ten Maxims
-Maxim 1: In academic institutions, the forces of nature are centrifugal; organizational art must be used to create propensities toward coherence.
-Maxim 2: Some means cannot be justified by any end; nevertheless, the only way in which a means can be justified at all is by showing that it contributes to bringing about a desired end.
-Maxim 3: Academic administrators do not manage units composed of faculty or students, however much they may at times dream of doing so.
-Maxim 4: Supervising is work, calling for the dedication of time, energy, and know-how.
-Maxim 5: To what position a given officer reports significantly affects the way in which his or her responsibilities are discharged.
-Maxim 6: If the organizational chart is the right one, and micromanagement exists, either the supervisor or the supervised is the wrong person for the slot.
