Corliss K. Slack teaches European history and the crusades at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Her first book was a collection of charters left by crusaders departing from northern Europe between 1138 and 1275, which was followed by the first edition of the Historical Dictionary of the Crusades (2003). She has also published articles on the reform of the secular church in the century between 1050 and 1150, and on the activities of the Premonstratensian Order in crusade preaching and procuration, and delivered papers on the crusades at various conferences.
This 2d edition expands upon the solid, original dictionary first published in 2003. The rationale for a 2d edition was to bring the bibliography up to date and to expand the number of entries. These new entries are either to expand coverage on specific crusades or events, such as the Baltic Crusades, or to reflect changes in current scholarship about the Crusades. The new edition admirably succeeds in strengthening this single volume source about the Crusades. The bibliography is helpfully divided into broad topics, such as specific crusades or geographic areas. . . .This updated work is recommended for academic libraries.
