Sutter (Georgetown Univ.) offers a historical dictionary containing 461 entries with comprehensive coverage of multiple aspects of US-China relations, 1784-2005. From Dean Acheson, the US State Department official who argued for withdrawing support of the Guomindang of Chiang Kai-shek, to Zhu Rongji, the Chinese leader who worked closely with US officials during the late 1990's Asian economic crisis, Sutter (School of Foreign Service, Georgetown U.) presents cross-referenced alphabetical entries that explain the importance of certain persons, events, organizations, and concepts to Sino-American relations over the course of the past two centuries. As with other volumes in the series, he also includes an introductory overview essay, a chronology, and a bibliography. There are also lists of US Presidents and Secretaries of State from 1789 to the present and Chinese Presidents and Prime Ministers from 1912 to the present..
