Patricia Pate Havlice retired from her career as a reference librarian at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2001. Three of her books have been chosen Best Reference Books of the Year by ALA's Reference Books Committee.
This will be a welcome addition to the earlier volumes of this reference work, indexing individual songs in collections published between 1988 and 2002....The volumes will be essential for libraries that have bought the earlier volumes (the first three supplements are still available for purchase), particularly music specialist institutions, and could stand alone as a useful bibliographic tool for any larger general library.
— Reference Reviews
This reference work continues to be an indispensable tool for public and academic librarians as well as vocal students and teachers.

4 Stars. This title is listed in Books for College Libraries, 3d. ed. Between a bibliography of the consulted songbooks arranged alphabetically by author and numbered, and an index of composers and lyricists referenced to song titles, an index by title, first line of the song, and the first line of the chorus cites rock, country, folk, holiday, children's, and other popular songs published between 1988 and 2002. The first-line entries are cross-referenced to the song title, which in turn is cross-referenced by number to the bibliography. Therefore, readers can find a song by title, first line, the first line of the chorus, composer, or lyricist; anyone who cannot remember at least one of those is probably thinking of some other song. The two volumes are paged together.
