The World Beat Series
Each volume in the World Beat Series will present a mix of previously published articles, commissioned pieces and primary documents on a particular topic. An introduction by the volume editor will place the general topic and the selections in their broader contexts. Each volume will conclude with brief lists of suggested readings, videos, and websites for further study. Each volume will include readings drawn from around the world, and will have as their major selling point this global offering of perspectives and information. Volumes will offer an easy way for professors without expertise in several areas of the world to "globalize" their courses. The individual readings must be accessible to freshmen and sophomores, as lower division courses will comprise the primary market for the volumes in the series. Volumes in the series will fall roughly into three main categories: issues (for example, disease and public health or revolutions in the developing world); identities (Global migration or borders and border politics); and environments (global warming and global waters or life in the global mega-cities).
