State & Society in East Asia
This series focuses on the interaction between state power and social pressures in the making of contemporary China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Conventional approaches to these countries have often stressed the strength of East Asian states in promoting stability and growth in the region. More recently, the dynamic role of social forces in East Asia also has captured scholarly attention. Welcoming both original research and works of synthesis, this series bridges the gap between studies on both sides of the inseparable state-society dyad.
