Historical Dictionaries of Professions and Industries
There is a lot to like about Scarecrow's various Historical Dictionaries series. -Booklist This series includes volumes on an assortment of professions and industries that are of general interest. They include a list of acronyms and abbreviations, almost indispensable in following the literature, a chronology, a general introduction, and an extensive bibliography. The core of each book is the cross-referenced dictionary section, with several hundred entries on important persons, places and events, organizations and institutions, concepts and techniques, and on products and companies. Among the topics covered are the Fashion Industry, Journalism, and Petroleum. Japanese Business is a somewhat less typical but certainly crucial component given the importance of Japanese companies around the world and also the specifics of the Japanese way of doing business, which is quite different and sometimes confusing to those who do not understand how it works. These books are of use to anyone studying the field, whether for academic or professional reasons.
