Dispatches from the New Diaspora
“New Diaspora” evokes the biblical theme of exile, as developed in Marc H. Ellis’s many writings, to describe the intellectual’s posture as an “exile” from established and dominant communities of religious and political orthodoxy, and to highlight the practices of inquiry and solidarity across boundaries that constitute the critical work of scholarship in biblical, theological, and religious studies disciplines. The serviceability of scholarship to constellations of power, especially destructive power, is a target of Dispatches, but the series also seeks to describe and present the positive practices that are already establishing a new and more humane social reality.
